Homework Policy

I am frequently asked about my position on sending homework with the students at the end of the school day.  There are pros and cons for each side of the homework debate.  For example, we know that many children need that time to decompress from the school day and many participate in extra-curricular evening activities.  On the other side of the coin, is homework necessary to prepare children for the workload they might receive in high school?  It's an interesting issue that's bound to be around for years to come.

My official homework policy is this.  I generally don't give out homework just for the sake of giving out homework.  Instead, homework will be based on work completion during the day. If a student is using his/her time wisely, there will usually be little/no homework sent home.  Excessive homework could be a sign that your child is not using his/her work time effectively, or is struggling with the material.  During times of project work, you may find an increase in the amount of homework.

Having said this, I am always more than happy to provide practice material that will allow your child to continue to develop skills through a self-paced homework routine.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the homework policy, please feel free to get in touch.
