Making Math Fun
It's super important that students get some enjoyment out of math in order for them to have the best chance of success. In 6/7-L, we use a couple of strategies to try to achieve this.
The first is our use of manipulatives as problem solving tools. These include things like coloured tiles, connecting cubes, base 10 blocks, place value mats, dice, coins, spinners and more. The students are able to use manipulatives to physically explore and demonstrate their understanding of math concepts.
The second is the use of math-based games. The students enjoy discovering and reviewing math concepts through game scenarios. We are currently focusing on probability, where the students will have the opportunity to explore fair and unfair games involving dice, coins and spinners.
