6/7-L Participating in Black History Month
Our discussions and learning began with Martin Luther King Jr. We've since been learning about the accomplishments of well-known black Canadians including Hal Johnson and Jerome Iginla.Hal Johnson, along with his wife Joanne Mcleod, hosted a 90-second TV segment called 'Body Break' during the late 80's and 90s. We learned that Hal dealt with some shocking descrimination and racism at the beginning of his TV career.
Jerome Iginla is a retired professional hockey player who laced up for a variety of teams, including the Calgary Flames. He has received numerous awards and is always willing to give back to the community.
Our learning and exploration of Black History Month continues next month.
