There's Been a Lot of 'Hands-on' in Math Class

The students have been accessing a wide variety of hands-on math tools (math manipulatives) to assist them when solving challenges involving integers, fractions and algebra.  Mrs. Wilson, a Board math specialist has spent time in our classroom over the last couple of weeks.

Below you will see images of the students using cuisenaire rods when working with fractions, and pattern blocks when involved in algebra.

As an activity to get comfortable with pattern blocks, the students were asked to create a piece of 'block art' for the '6/7-L Math Museum.'  Each colour was assiged a dollar value, and the students calculated the 'value' of their piece of math art.

be collecting and anaylsing the data they collect.
