Yummy Treats on Sale Tuesday!

Image
It's the annual and very popular Bake Sale at MTPS this coming Tuesday, March 26th.  This year's event is branded 'The Buzzing Bee Bake Sale,' with proceeds going to the Humaine Society and a program to help save bee populations. Students in 6/7-L were brought onboard by Ms. Burr, assisting her students as they planned, wrote, and recorded daily announcements about 'The Buzzing Bee Bake Sale.' 6/7-Lers Become the Teachers

Image
Three students in 6/7-L were asked to come to an MTPS staff meeting last Tuesday in order to show other teachers how to use a variety of math manipulatives to assist in solving problems involving fractions and algebra.  The use of manipulatives and math tools has been a focus of our math classroom this year.  Thank you to Peyton, Mackenzie and Lachlan.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Students in 6/7-L are finishing up a visual arts/math project with some incredible results.   The assignment asked students to take a team logo and resize the image onto a much larger piece of paper by making use of a grid system. This is a task that takes considerable time and patience, but for those who persevered, the results are stunning.

6/7-Lers Teach Others Some of the 'Keys to Success'

Image
MTPS held its monthly Terrific Kid assembly on March 7th, with good attendance habits being the theme.  Two students in 6/7-L, Nolan and Abby, were recognized for their perfect attendance. At the end of our Terrifid Kid assemblies this year, each class takes a turn presenting the theme of the next Terrific Kid award.  It was our turn at this assembly to teach other students what it looks like to be an independent worker.  Our students hit it home with a gameshow called the 'Keys to Success.'  The images below capture the students practicing and then presenting in front of the school.

Wait Until You See Some of These!

We launched a new visual arts project in 6/7-L in the week before the March Break.  I call it expansion art or grid art.  The idea is that the students select a sports team logo, mostly from the NHL.  They create a grid system that covers the small logo they selected.  They then take a much larger piece of grid paper, and recreate the logo box-by-box.  In other words, what they see in box A-1 on the small logo will be transferred exactly to box A-1 on the chart paper-sized grid, thus 'expanding' the logo.  Check out some of the masterpieces.
